Ok so we all know that you can start a blog with little or no money. All you have to do is go to blogger.com or you can go to wordpress.com. Now that you have set up your blog and you are passionate about the subject you chose Now what?
Just because you built it does not mean they are going to come. Believe me it takes work and if you think you are going to just have overnight success, well then I suggest you go purchase a lottery ticket.
The steps to building a successful blog include the following:
1.) Content is king. If you do not make regular posts in your blog, you can forget it. That is why you want to choose something you are passionate about, so you can easily write about it and have the time and motivation to do research on it or read other blogs about the same subject you are writing about.
You want to post on a consistent basis, as opposed to only posting once a month. When I first started my blog I got tied up in daily life and did not make time to post. Now my goal is to post at least 3 times a week. I post more if my time allows it.
2.) Write down your why. (Why am I blogging and what do I wish to achieve?) If you have a strong enough why you will have the courage and desire to stick with it. Somedays you are not going to want to post in your blog, after all it is summertime and there are places and things to do.
If your "why" is strong enough you will take the hour out of your day to move towards your goal.
3.) You should always interact with your readers. When someone leaves a comment on your blog; always take the time to respond to it. I did not do this at the beginning, but now I make it a ritual, whenever someone leaves a comment I always respond.
Ask for people's thoughts and ideas, this not only lets them feel like they are part of the blog; but can also give you more useful topics to write about later. Like on days that you are feeling you have nothing to write about.
4.) Brand yourself as knowledgable and experienced. Now I don't claim to be a guru of any kind about blogging or earning money online. As a matter of fact, I am on a journey to financial freedom. (The point is I have taken the leap into entrepreneurship) it is a learning process. If it was extremely easy don't you agree that more people would do it?
You want to brand your blog with pictures of yourself and let people know that you are a real person.
5.) You have to be able to write. Now I am not talking about being a great writer with proper english and punctuation marks like you were taught in high school. Cause I don't believe I was a great writer in school. You just have to be able to get your point across to people and help them understand what you are writing about, and why you are writing about it.
When you write valuable information and help people, then in turn people will be helping you because they will pick up your article and link to you. As you get more articles picked up and linked to your popularity and rankings will grow. so focus on writing valuable information and help people and in turn be helped.
It all comes back to your goal, what do you want to accomplish? First figure that out and then you will know the path to take.
6.) Read other successful bloggers posts, I read other peoples blogs like john chow, steve pavlina, and the problogger. Why? Well they give me useful information to see what they are talking about and you should never stop learning.
7.) Build your traffic. This is the must have of any successful blogger. If you have all 6 steps in place on top, but do not have traffic, then guess what. It does not matter.
Traffic is the lifeline to any website, blog, business whatever you name it. If you don't have it then you are not really in business. So how do we get traffic? Follow all 7 of these steps and you will see the traffic begin to come in.
